HP Pavilion dv2000 with Nouveau - Crashes on starting X

Hi,

We have a HP Pavilion dv2000 notebook, with a NVidia mobile graphics chipset.

We're using the nouveau drivers, as per the instructions here:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau

When we try to run "startx", it simply goes to a black screen, and seems to lock the notebook.

I've put the Xorg log here:

http://dpaste.com/478676/

Any ideas what's going on?

Cheers,
Victor

Did you reboot after installing the drivers? If not, do so now.
Can you switch to the console once you run startx?
Are you using any WM / DE?
Are you autostarting any apps? If not, try autostarting e.g. a terminal + bare X to see if it will run.

heya,

Yup, we did do a reboot after installing the nouveau drivers.

Nope, I can't seem to switch to the console afterwards, from memory Caps Lock didn't work either, so I think it's actually locked up.

Nope, no WM/DE or starting any apps - .xinitrc is just the default skeleton one, it should just default to an xterm.

Cheers,
Victor

Re: HP Pavilion dv2000 with Nouveau - Crashes on starting X

heya,

Yeah, I did try the propretiary ones, also a black screen with those and lockups, had to pull the power on the laptop. However, I can't seem to get a Xorg log for that, it seems to be empty.

I might try again, and see if I can get a Xorg log.

To be honest, I would like to use nouveau if possible, or to figure out why the above didn't work. There's nothing that seems to standout in the logs, is there?

Argh, I've never had this many issues with Intel graphics...*sigh*.

Cheers,
Victor
