Tamsyn2

By request, here's 'Tamsyn2': http://ompldr.org/vN3E3OQ

The idea behind the modification is the exact same as what lokaltog has done before - replace some infrequently used characters with 'icons'. If you open the font up in xmbdfed or gbdfed, you'll be able to see which characters are modified. Currently, there are icons for some DWM layouts (the standard tile, monocle, & floating as well as Bottom Stack and Bottom Stack Horizontal), Volume-Mute/low/medium/high, Mail, Music, Temperature, CPU Usage (which is unbelievably vague) and RAM usage. I've also started to expand Tamsyn into more ISO8859 compliance with the addition of a few characters that Tamsyn doesn't have. (They're inspired by Dina, and I'm pretty green at this whole thing so sue me if they suck wink )

Any more questions / requests will have to wait till tomorrow, 1:30 AM is late enough for me.

EDIT: If I thought this would have gotten moved to Community Contributions, I would have prepared a more complete release. If anyone would like a 6x11 version, please let me know. I'd be more than happy to finish out the modifications I've done to Tamsyn6x11, but I stopped because I determind that the font was much too small for my screen.

Re: Tamsyn2

I moved this to Community Contributions because there is likely to be some ongoing discussion around it, and it shouldn't really be in the screenshot thread.

Thanks for uploading this!

Re: Tamsyn2

Have you sent the ISO8859 characters to the creator of tamsyn? I'm interested in seeing more characters supported.

Re: Tamsyn2

ryuslash - No I haven't. I think that this version (the one hosted in the first post) of the font has pretty crappy ISO8859-1 support anyway, as I uploaded before I made most of the changes I have. I can reupload the version that I have on hand currently - which contains no added alphabetical characters (i.e no alphabetical characters with umlauts etc). I'm afraid to do these, as I don't use them regularly and I don't know what they need to be truly legible. Sorry for not responding in a more timely fashion - thought this thread was dead.

Re: Tamsyn2

Sorry for asking such a dumb question, but how do I actually use the icons in this font for layout symbols and the statusbar script?

Re: Tamsyn2

open the font with gdbfed, look at the char number for the wanted icon, then run ":digraphs" in vim, and look for the that number. tongue

PS: insert mode, ctrl+k, and then enter the combination, something like :-

Re: Tamsyn2

I simply copy and pasted the symbol that was originally at that number. You can do that with this table: http://www.utf8-chartable.de/
