Simple scalar on arch Linux. Anyone has ever tried that?

Hello everybody. During the next week I am going to compile simple scalar simulator.
http://www.simplescalar.com/
Simple scalar is environment for building and simulating processor architecture work with various tools.
Thought during this week I accomplished this task, I found that installation ,in example on Ubuntu, had some nasty quirks:
1) You need old flex thought in some bundles simple scalar comes with own flex version
2) There was problems with GCC 4.4 compilation (or at least it was not recomended, thought some sources says it is possible). To avoid issues I just moved to gcc 3.3.
3) simple scalar is not friend with 64 bit system. Simutils (repacked Binutils) ./config failed to detect processor architecture.
4) Some play in Makefiles with compression and decompression scripts and '/' symbols.

If someone managed to run Simple scalar, please share with your success story.
If I compile and run it I will post solution here. I'm interested if someone managed to run simple scalar on 64 bit Arch Linux.
