Boosting Internet speed

I've renamed the 'ipv6' module to 'dot_ipv6' - and that gave the boost described
in the Unofficial Guide. Blacklisting it in 'rc.conf' with a '!' didn't keep it from getting loaded
(automatically).

Then I installed a faster DNS-server, again as described in the Unofficial Guide.

Another way to speed up DNS could be storing your favourite URLs in /etc/hosts.
Sometimes DNS-servers are sluggish around here (New Zealand), so that will
take the load off them..

Re: Boosting Internet speed

Sorry, got that wrong. It's the Appendix to the "Official Installation Guide" containg 'unofficial documentation'.

Quite a treasure trove, actually.

Re: Boosting Internet speed

I always add it to my boot kernel in menu.lst

ipv6.disable=1

Re: Boosting Internet speed

ipv6.disable=1 in grub's menu.lst (line starting with 'kernel...')

probably is the better way to do it. Stands out, and is easy to fix.

If you use the above, the wget -4 ... bit mentioned elsewhere
wouldn't be required any more.

Thanx,
Tom.
