Is there some instruction to make Ubuntu-like GUI step by step? Otherwise we may make article in archwiki.
I want to show that Archlinux has similar usability. Thanks in advance!

quick google search shows default GUI is gnome.

Usability is subjective - for example, I would find Ubuntu less usable that my current Arch setup. By all means, do what is required to make your Arch setup the same as Ubuntu, but remember that is your choice, and not necessarily something that other Archers want.

Indeed, why bother installing archlinux at all if you want to setup your arch to look and act the same way ubuntu do (GUI = means looks, usability = acts). Just install ubuntu.
Are you by any chance persuading an ubuntu user to switch to arch?

Lol. I know. I mean Gnome configuration.

I meant GUI (config of fonts, themes, icons, etc in complex). I like Arch for KISS, so I'm locking for something like this one, but more modern.

I never use this Ubuntu. All I need to show that Ubuntu isn't better than Arch. Yeah, usability is incorrect term for this situation. Sorry.

You mean you're trying to show that any Distro can look and act like Ubuntu if bent enough? You are trying to prove a FOSS axiom. Don't forget to divide by zero TWICE! If the number is odd, the universe might collapse.

"better" is also subjective.

Just what I wanted to say.
@SkyTod:
If your concern is that Ubuntu looks awesome. Try looking at this thread:

As for ubuntu GUI, you can google it. Just get correct themes:
- Metacity.
- GTK Widgets.
- Icons. (I think it included in the respository)
and it'll look just the same.
Another way is copy these theme directly from a ubuntu installation disk.

I tried, but they use patched versions or something like this, so I couldn't do the same. I 'm looking for ready conception, because I'm not only one who tried it at home.

OK, I found the metacity and gtk themes.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/all … s/download
Select a mirror, download the package to a new folder.
cd $PATH_TO_THE_NEW_FOLDER
ar x light-themes_0.1.8.2_all.deb
tar -xf data.tar.gz
mkdir -p ~/.themes
cp -r usr/share/themes/* ~/.themes/
There should be "Ambiance" and "Radience" theme now.
Further customization is up to you.

Up to you, of course, but if others prefer Ubuntu, why not let them use Ubuntu? You can dual-boot with Arch, and it would save you all this hassle.

Search for "ayatana" in this forum and you will found the answer
That's exactly what I want! Thanks! I'll try later.
