ettercap crash (trying not to necro)

I have ettercap & ettercap-gtk installed, and I can start it fine with: sudo ettercap-gtk -G

but after I click Sniff > Unified sniffing > wlan0

ettercap crashes, and I get the following output in terminal:

ERROR : 13, Permission denied
[ec_manuf.c:manuf_init:126]

Cannot open etter.finger.mac

What can I do to fix this, if there is anything? Thank you in advance.

Notice - I am running it with "sudo" so I don't know what the permission denied is there for..

Try running as real root. (Use "su" to switch to superuser, then run your command.) Sometimes that makes a difference, I don't know why exactly though.

Another thing you can check is if your card is in "monitor mode". You can set the mode using iwconfig.
