Re: [req] swfdec (decoder and player)

Why don't you make a pkgbuild for it?

Yup...a PKGBUILD for the latest version would be handy...because it supposedly plays Youtube videos!!!

WTF? there's an official pkg in our repos. only i686 update is pending but everybody can rebuild it from cvs. don't duplicate stuff to AUR!

Re: [req] swfdec (decoder and player)

And how was I to know that? The swfdec hasn't been updated for a year. So I went ahead today, created package for myself and decided to share it.

Moreover, the package in the AUR can be easily deleted. I really don't understand why you're making such a fuss about it.

How were you to know what?  That an update was pending?  You could email the package maintainer and see, or post a forum thread and ask.  In any case, the rules of the AUR state to not upload packages that are already in the official repos - 'dems the rules.  If a package is lagging horribly out-of-date, emailing the maintainer or posting a forum thread politely requesting that package be prioritized is probably the best way to go.

So I went ahead today, created package for myself and decided to share it.

Always good to take the initiative and make local updates, but again, we try to keep software that's in current or extra out of the AUR to avoid unnecessary duplication and confusion.

In any case, you'll find swfdec and swfdec-mozilla in [extra] are now up-to-date.

@Cerebral: Yes, thank you for the explanation. I see my mistake now and I already apologized in another thread. I am happy that packages have come out eventually. Thanks
