Dolphin needs f5 refresh to show contents SOLVED

I am having a strange issue with kde and dolphin where when i open dolphin none of the files or folders in my home get displayed until i either refresh the view with f5 or select another folder in the places. Toggling preview on/off also starts to show the content. I tried leaving previews off and on but get same result. Any Ideas?
