Seems that with a few updates (seen a few specific to xz) that a host of .tar.xz archives I've made are not being properly recognized... file-roller used to see them all just fine a few months ago, but attempting to open them today, I got a few with the standard "archive not recognized" error in file-roller and xarchiver. Xarchiver will let me extract some of those archives, but the extracted archives end up being .tar archives. When I originally made this with file-roller, it could pack and unpack tar.xz archives in a single effort. Am I experiencing an uncommon issue or is this just not being talked about because those who have had the issue wrote it off since it was hit or miss?

I do not experience such an issue. Could you provide us with one of the "faulty" archives, so we can see for ourselves?

exact error:
xz: (stdin): File format not recognized
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting nowwill see if I can find a file I'm able to share, as these files are backups of CD rips from programs I legally own, but can't legally share...
