Please note that I'm using xcompmgr only to enable transparency [mainly because cairo-compmgr's systray icon pisses me off].
When I try to run stalonetray transparently with the osd.border.width set to 0, I usually get a glitchy background for my systray icons or just black. But sometimes transparency works fine--that's the worst part, I think.
When I pull tint2 up from autohide, it creates grey bars and/or lines at 100% width even though I only have my tint2rc set to 90% width. Obviously, this is unattractive.
Turning off xcompmgr does the trick, but then I am stuck with no transparency.

I've used xcompmgr-dana for a while which seemed to be less glitchy: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22873

I installed xcompmgr-dana right away. I tried to run xcompmgr-dana, but apparently it's not a command. So, I'm assuming the command 'xcompmgr' is now xcompmgr-dana? [Real Linux newbie here.]
I am getting the same frustrating and unattractive problems. However, it seems to only happen when windows are maximized, so it might be something simpler in the tint2rc, like top, bottom, etc.
stalonetray starts transparently, but then reverts to black after a little bit. stalonetray is also using autohide, and it is set up as my Openbox's dock. (osd.border.width is set to 0 in my obtheme.)
Could the problem not have to do with xcompmgr at all then? [If so, does that mean I have to start another thread?]

Another thread is not necessary, since you seem to only experience this in combination with xcompmgr...

I'm feeling pretty stupid now. My problem with tint2 was not xcompmgr related.
Some toying with the conf made things okay:
strut_policy = follow_size
made Openbox change the size of maximized windows whenever I brought up tint2 out of autohide. Changing this line to
strut_policy = none
made all the difference.
(Still having problems with stalonetray though. I'll make another thread later once I diagnose the problem a little more or something.)

Could you detail a bit more, please. Which conf settings did help?
Just for others looking forward to solve similar problems.
And mark this thread "[SOLVED]" (just edit your first post).
BTW: Why do you need stalonetray? Tint2 has a tray built in.

To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.

I just installed tint2 to try it. I've been using stalonetray for a few weeks and this issues been bothering me. I've been nuts Googling for solutions.
