Gimp Print 5.0.0_beta4-1 seems to be in the AUR. And you can get it in package form from dma147's repo it seems.
Put this into your /etc/pacman.conf
[dma147]
Server = http://arch.linux-stats.org/pkgs
The run
# pacman -Sy gutenprint

i recently bought the r300 , runs ok out the box, cups , gimp-print etc. for things like web pages and so on. anything like gqview / gwenview / gimp just spew out lines of code if i print any sort of pic. is this related ?
Edit:
for no apparent reason, it now seems to work ok on all fronts altho i think the CD print tray is the next challenge

Use pacman -Syf gutenprint, the f will force pacman to overwrite these files.

You might have noticed that gutenprint is now orphaned - dma is no longer maintaining it, and nobody else has adopted it. Related to that, rc2 was released on 21 Jan.
This may or may not concern you, but I reckoned it was worth mentioning anyway.

i adopted it. 2 updates to the source and i couldn't take it anymore. had to adopt it since i'm using it anyway.

I'm using gimp-print 4.2.7-3 and cups 1.1.23-5 with an Epson R200 and Epson R300, no problem. Cups 1.2 doesn't work
