This could possibly be a DNS issue, but when I type 5 word or more in to the forum search box I get an "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Page"
I tried it on my other computer and had the same issue. Could some verify if this is a user specific issue or if there is a glitch on the forum?

Instead of using the built in forum search I mostly use google site specific search such as:
site:bbs.archlinux.org installing on a macbook
Also you are rate limited on your searches if you use the built in forum search.

I've never noticed this, but my only opportunity to use IE is at work, and that is version 7.
Actually, that isn't true. I forgot my wife's computer. I just tried it with IE9, and could not recreate the problem. I tried it both logged in and logged out.

OT: why use IE at all, especially on a Linux forum? Firefox, at least... /OT
Please specify if you get this on typing or on clicking search.

Could be the a browser or connection timeout.
I just tried a rather long search term list, and it took 'a while' to return results.
If you are behind a corporate firewall with a quick connection timeout (or IE has such a timeout on its own..i wouldn't know) this could explain what you are seeing. Just a theory though.

Hey, great idea... The rate limit for forum searches is painful... And this method also works on duckduckgo.com . Now I just need to find a way to manually add a search "engine" to Firefox...

pacman -Ss search | grep -A1 arch-
community/arch-firefox-search 0.8-1
Firefox Arch search engines (AUR, Pkgs, BBS, Wiki, etc.)

That will work only if OP uses Arch :-) As he used IE to search the forums, this is unlikely.
Edit: Sorry, just realized that stqn is not the OP ...

Thanks but as I wrote I was more interested in using DuckDuckGo.com to perform the search in order to avoid the 30 seconds delay between searches. That, and the arch-firefox-search package doesn't show up in my firefox3 (installed from the AUR.)
The "Mycroft Project" site has search engine plugins for both IE and Firefox (and other web browsers), and you can also create new ones there.
Here is the list of search engine plugins for the Arch Linux forums.
The second one uses Google for searching the Arch forums and should work with IE.
The third one is the one I just made; it lets you search the Arch forums with DuckDuckGo, but will probably not work with IE because I selected the "POST" method instead of "GET".

duckduckgo is great. it has a similar google feature such as 'site:archlinux.org mykeywords' (and optionally make it easier if you set your default search engine to duckduckgo), and to use archlinux's native searching capabilities: '!archlinux mykeywords', '!archpkg mykeywords', '!aur mykeywords', etc. i found that i don't need to add any extra search engine strings to my searches when duckduckgo has all of them. another option, anyway

I believe that this is the case. I am also having issues logging into the forum now. Took me a few days to post this message. I am not sure why as all other sites seem to be doing fine, and I have a 21mb connection.
I will post this as closed since no one else is having the issue.

That is quite unfortunate.
If you have an external server somewhere, you could try an ssh tunnel (ssh -D), and use it as a proxy as a testing-workaround.
