Installing Gnome 3 broke vmware

Today I installed Gnome 3 and right after that I'm unable to launch vmware workstation.
I'm using 2.6.38-ARCH on a 64bit intel with nvidia 270.30-4 drivers. Is anyone else having the same problem?

edit: Forgot to mention that after first launch vmware suggested me to update the Kernel modules. Did that. Also added the neccessary patch.

What does the Log-File say he mentions?

Nothing much, that's why I didn't include it in the first place.

Re: Installing Gnome 3 broke vmware

same problem here. on a fresh installed system, trying to run "vmware" from console, gave me that:

No value set for `/desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility'
No value set for `/desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility'
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/share/themes/Adwaita/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:80: error: unexpected identifier `colorize_scrollbar', expected character `}'

the log is the same as pingvin.

Re: Installing Gnome 3 broke vmware

really seems like vmware can´t handle the GTK+ Theme used at GNOME3.

I think there cant be done much here in the Archlinux Forum in the first place. Looks more like something upstream

but im not sure at all, could also be an packaging issue which broken some shared objects

I don't think my problem is same as meijin's. I get none of the errors on console that he mentioned.

Re: Installing Gnome 3 broke vmware

I just discovered that I can't get HAL up and running. I guess these two are related.

edit: Got HAL working, still no vmware though.

Re: Installing Gnome 3 broke vmware

I have Vmware 7.1.4 - it is not working in vmware - hal ins't working properly with it either.

I hope this is fixed soonish - as i doubt downgrading is an option - and i require VMware for work sad

Man, i would have thought the gnome-developers would have atelast tested vmware?

if i run vmware as root i get this;

[root@ninez ninez]# /usr/bin/vmware
Failed to get value for `/desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility': Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details -  1: Failed to get connection to session: The connection is closed)

  D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace

as normal user it just fails, giving me no real info.

aside from that I know Hal isn't working properly.

Re: Installing Gnome 3 broke vmware

I solve with info found at:
http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=93337

Tell KDE 4.6.x to use HAL.

Put a little bash script into /usr/share/kde4/env and name it, say, KDE-HAL.sh with the following content:

#!/bin/bash

export SOLID_HAL_LEGACY=1

Add same export in autostar with gnome.

Hey thanks for the tip. worked out really well. I just had to add Hal to /etc/rc.conf. ( which i use to start manually, as i do not reboot very often, but manual start does not work in gnome3).
