Hi all,
I don't know if there are other people having this issue, but I'm using gnome3 for one week now first from gnome-unstable and now a fresh install from testing and in both install I couldn't use the network applet. It asks my root password and then, nothing. Clicking on the network name or trying to setup via Network Settings did not help me also. I was stopping the networkmanager service and connecting manually through wpa_supplicant until now.
My steps to fix the problem was just:
sudo pacman -S testing/network-manager-applet
BTW:
I followed all the wiki steps to get the gnome3 installed but only after this I was able to get the applet working.
Hope this help somebody, would be a useful first post. =]

Dude,
This trick was intended to work when Gnome3 was on testing repositories. Now that it moved to extra is useless.
Good luck.
