[SOLVED] Can't start KDE or even X after upgrade: ethais theme removed

Hi All,

After todays upgrade, KDE simply does not starts, not even X server. After the booting is done, I get the following error:

Cannot open theme file /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/ethais

There is a clickable OK button in the window that displays this message. If I click on it, I could go and login to terminal. But again, giving startx fails.

I tried removing KDE-meta and reistalling KDE. But still the problem remains. What can be done?

Using X86_64 in Compaq nx6125

Thanks in advance,
Sebin

Re: [SOLVED] Can't start KDE or even X after upgrade: ethais theme removed

Hi,
I got into the same situation after upgrading to KDE 4.6.2
After some search this helped me:

Find which themes you have installed (this worked for me):

ls /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes

(I got circles, horos, oxygen and oxygen-air, but apparently no ethais)

Edit (as root) file /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc, find the line starting with Theme= and change the name of the theme (end of the line) to any of themes you just have made sure you have installed.
In my case I replaced this
Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/ethais
with this

Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen-air

Save it, reboot and it it should work since then.

(It seems the ethais theme was removed from KDE 4.6.2.)
