CM8738 trouble

Hi everyone, I've bought a new PCI sound card which uses the CM8738 chipset, I load the snd-cmipci module, without any problems, but when I try to play anything it keeps repeating the first sound sent to the card. It is really weird, since it only happens after I start hte X Server, if I play anything using the console it plays normal, does anybody know what might be happening?

Re: CM8738 trouble

I also have such soundcard and it works great. These are the modules I load for sound:
snd-cmipci snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-seq-oss

For alsa snd-cmipci should be enough.

If you are starting any sound daemon with X, like arts or esd, try to stop it and play sound directly (alsa or oss).

Another thing you might try is run alsamixer or gnome-alsamixer and check the settings. Although in your case they seem fine if you get nice sound without X.

Re: CM8738 trouble

It was a problem with the esd daemon... after I upgraded it worked fine... thanks.
