Problem rolling back kernel [SOLVED]

Hello,

I'm trying to roll back my kernel following the wiki. But when I arrive to the actual installing the old kernek #pacman -U /var...kernel26-2.6.38.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

I get this message “Can't open package file”

Any idea what's wrong?

Thanks,
jmak

Re: Problem rolling back kernel [SOLVED]

1) verify it exists
2) verify it isn't corrupted

The package exists. It is in the /var/cache/pacman/pkg directory.

How should I go about verifying it?

Re: Problem rolling back kernel [SOLVED]

assuming your kernel is in core (2.6.38.2-1 still is), pacman -Si kernel26 | grep MD5

edit: on second thought, why don't you install from core? you still have the package in your cache so it won't download again unless it is corrupted or missing

I'm using the install cd to recover the old kernel because the new kernel broke my system and I cannot login anymore.

Re: Problem rolling back kernel [SOLVED]

Are you aware the install CD can use a network with most setups?

To save time, the md5sum is
8c38cade2cf95794e37c18521f2a83aa  kernel26-2.6.38.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

I'm not familiar with these things. I am following this wiki:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Panics

But I stuck with this message.

Re: Problem rolling back kernel [SOLVED]

Run md5sum /path/to/kernel and compare the output of that to what I put above.

OK. The md5sum is correct.

This is fresh install. Everything should be up to date.

Re: Problem rolling back kernel [SOLVED]

Ok. Solved. It was my mistake, I mistyped the command at some point.
