X font server

Hi all,

I'm coming from a Fedora background, so bare with me :-)  Now, when I modify /etc/fonts/local.conf I used to run

service xfs restartp

whicih would restart the X font server and read the new config settings.

How do I do this in arch?  there doesn't seem to be an "xfs" script in /etc/rc.d/

Re: X font server

No that's wrong - the x font server, for one - is so old it's funny.  If you want to support motif and cde apps, and other things from the 80s, then xfs is great... however, modern apps user fontconfig.... fontconfig ic managed by /etc/fonts/*.  The xfs does not use these files - the font server will only use the font path's specified in xorg.conf

Basically - ignore the font server... when you make fontconfig changes, they're picked up whenever an app requests a font, so don't worry about anything like that... if you change paths you should run "fc-cache -fv" to recache them...

don't use the font server... it's bad

@phrakture: Thank you - "fc-cache -fv" worked like a charm after adding the msttcorefonts.

This thread is another thing that's so old it's funny. I'm betting it will be closed soon.

It seems you lost this bet. It's 2018 and I came across this (open) thread in search of a solution for my font problem. big_smile

Well it isn't going to have as much luck in the future.

Closing.
