HDD issues

Hi there,

I am having some HDD issues. Every now and then, my desktop freezes for a second and dmesg is showing this - http://pastebin.com/jNdigDKP .

I've tried changing SATA cable, I even changed the PSU, and yet, it happens again.

This happens with kernel 2.6.38, and happened with 2.6.37 also.

03:00.0 SATA controller: JMicron Technology Corp. JMB361 AHCI/IDE (rev 02)

Model Family:     Western Digital Caviar Blue Serial ATA family
Device Model:     WDC WD5000AAJS-22YFA0

Smartctl output - http://pastebin.com/PhjmtUGj

Thanks

Re: HDD issues

Although it's probably not the surface, you can boot Hiren's Boot CD and scan your HDD for bad sectors and have them remapped with ViVard. I'd say the hdd is failing.

Re: HDD issues

Or download the "UltimateBootCD" and use the WD diagnostic tool there, but from those dmesg errors (which I have seen many times on old recycled hard drives) you appear to have a failing hard drive which most tools I know of may not be able to fix. I hope you have backed up your data already ?
