Settings specified in Synaptiks don't last between sessions

Everything is up-to-date, and I'm running KDE 4.6.2 with the latest version of the Synaptiks front-end. I've tried setting up the touchpad with it as both myself and root but it's always the same; the settings specified stick until I log out or reboot, then they're back to their default. How do I make this work so I don't have to resort to using xorg.conf?
