Segfault on quake3 engine games

Hi there all.  Thought I'd fire up a spot of Enemy Territory today so I installed it from AUR no problems.  Though when I loaded it up and reached the initial config screen the performance was ridiculously low, I could even navigate the menu properly since the mouse lag was something like 5+ seconds.  I have a brand new i7 using the i915 driver so performance really shouldn't be that bad.

I had a poke about on the Intel wiki page and there was a line in there about might needing to install lib32-intel-dri.  Fairly sure it's running in 64-bit native but decided to give it a go and now the program just tries to load and then segfaults:

----- finished R_Init -----
Sys_LoadDll(/home/me/.etwolf/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so)...
Sys_LoadDll(/home/me/.etwolf/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so) failed:
"/home/me/.etwolf/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
Sys_LoadDll(/opt/enemy-territory/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so)... ok
Sys_LoadDll(ui) found **vmMain** at  0xf1b20f40
Sys_LoadDll(ui) succeeded!
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
  Major opcode of failed request: 0
  Minor opcode of failed request: 0
  Serial number of failed request: 5607

Segmentation fault

Tried true-combat too and basically the same error.  Any ideas on how to proceed with this?

Re: Segfault on quake3 engine games

Could it be related to the X crashes I'm getting on other fullscreen media like flash or VLC?

Fairly sure it's running in 64-bit native

Hi, ET and TCE are both 32bit only so make sure you have any 32bit libs they need. You can check what they need with ldd but since you're having other crashes this may not help.

Re: Segfault on quake3 engine games

Thanks for the advice smudge.  I decided to give Quake 3 a go today so got ioquake3 from AUR and that runs perfectly, sooo guess I'm not having any problems with DRI or 3D stuff, just the Enemy Territory build.  Hmm.

Re: Segfault on quake3 engine games

I can only suggest you both find the file et.x86 and in a terminal type:

ldd et.x86

and see if you get any "not found" messages.

Re: Segfault on quake3 engine games

Running ldd on et.x86 gives me this.

[nicholas@coldsteel ~]$ ldd /opt/enemy-territory/et.x86
    linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xf7746000)
    libdl.so.2 => /usr/lib32/libdl.so.2 (0xf771d000)
    libX11.so.6 => /usr/lib32/libX11.so.6 (0xf7601000)
    libXext.so.6 => /usr/lib32/libXext.so.6 (0xf75f3000)
    libm.so.6 => /usr/lib32/libm.so.6 (0xf75c9000)
    libc.so.6 => /usr/lib32/libc.so.6 (0xf7463000)
    /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf7747000)
    libxcb.so.1 => /usr/lib32/libxcb.so.1 (0xf744b000)
    libXau.so.6 => /usr/lib32/libXau.so.6 (0xf7448000)
    libXdmcp.so.6 => /usr/lib32/libXdmcp.so.6 (0xf7443000)

It looks like all the dependencies are met.
