What do I need to be able to stream videos over home network in KDE?
I tried to do it with ssh, both graphically and by terminal (Network>AddNetwork>ssh) and it didn't work. It tried to download the file. I was reading this is some kind of bug in the KDE.
What else can I use to stream videos? Samba? Avahi?

Perhaps you doesn't have installed sshd...

I added sshd to my daemon array in rc.config and also had vlc... but both methods try to download the file, which is kind of stupid.. why do I need to download it?

Is using sshfs only option?

IMO, it would be best to abandon SSH completely. Its going add undesired overhead to this project.
I use mediatomb to stream content to PS3 and HTPC running Arch: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mediatomb
If you just want to be able to access files locally from a remote server, use NFS to mount the desired remote folders: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NFS

MediaTomb is a Free UPnP Media Server designed to deliver your media content on your LAN. I don't see the need to use ssh when streaming content locally.
Are there machines on your LAN that you don't trust? I'm just trying to understand why SSH is necessary.
Am I missing something?
If you're looking to stream content locally, than I've found MediaTomb to be a great application, if you need to stream content outside your LAN, then I'm not sure what to use.

On high bandwith, SSH produces unecessary overhead for local networks.

This is the ps3mediaserver on AUR. Even if you don't have a ps3, it will recognize all streamable devices on your network. Its probably the best program if you have formats that aren't mp4 (i.e. mkv). It also has a transcode menu built into it so you can select subtitles, mencoder, tsmuxer, etc.
