I just installed Gnome 3 and am using the fallback mode.
I noticed that the Focus Desktop / Show Desktop button, "ctrl-alt-d", no longer works.
I found that the Gnome 3 developers listed it as a "bug" and removed the keybinding. (see the link below)
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=643609
This is a key feature I use very frequently. Does anyone know how to restore the keybinding?
Thanks!
Code can be clean, fast, or object oriented. Pick two.

you just listed the bug and the commit that needs revert. that is how you restore it
use patch -R to apply that patch
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Is it possible to do that without recompiling Gnome3?
I'd much rather figure out how to change hotkeys overall than apply a patch.
The patch won't help me change keybindings in the future, if I decide I need a new one.
*edit*
Also, recompiling would really be awful because I've spent the last 3 days undoing all of the "improvements" Gnome3 made to my customized workspace. I'd prefer not to have to start over.

As a quick workaround for this, you could create a launcher or assign a keyboard shortcut to the command
wnckprop --show-desktop
There is also an option
wnckprop --unshow-desktop
if you want a second shortcut to revert and re-show the windows.

In the "System Settings",you can set the shortcuts by the "Keyboard.

Hi! I coincidentally upgraded to gnome3 and am using fallback mode.
I've seemed to solve it by assigning the following to Ctrl+Alt+D:
Note: After I've assigned the function, it no longer appears in the window.
System Settings --> Keyboard --> Shortcuts --> Windows --> Hide all normal windows
Hopefully it'll work for you!

These people are really hackers. They want to compete with Windows and develop software for Geeks. I am asking myself if the Gnome Shell concept is for typical Windows users acceptable or if Gnome is drifting into a Geek corner. What do you think?

@davie95376, thanks for the solution.
I am wandering if the Hide all normal windows is in a different place depending on distro? I found it under the Navigation shortcuts, not the Windows shortcuts.
Anyway, for FC15 users, I have posted a short guide here.
Thanks again.

You're Welcome! Sorry for the real long delay.

Thanks for this. I'd like to be able to make a script that would use these. Can wnckprop detect if the window state is minimized?

Yes... as e3eli3h said, "Hide all normal windows" is under the "Navigation" shortcuts
