Dell Remote Control - What wrong?

Hello, my English is not very good, but I would like to ask.
I have a dell xps 16 and irda remote control. I do not know him to run.

Any ideas?

What do you want to use the remote control for? Pause/play during music/video?

Anyway, the LIRC project is to support remote controls in Linux..
