[Solved]MPD issues

Hello there.
I am having issues with the music player daemon.
I am using ALSA (with no pulseaudio)
I am using mpd.conf accordingly to the alsa config.
I had a high CPU usage so the wiki said that I have to set auto_resample off.I've did that and it worked for a while.
But now , the songs sound choppy,I really can't describe it,it's like it's scraping something.Though sound from youtube or other players like VLC work fine.
I've tried to set auto_resample on,and guess what, sound was fine! But the CPU started going to 60% on each of the 2 cores..
So I really don't know what to do,it was really alot of hassle to get my USB speakers working with alsa. Some people said that it works better if I use it with pulseaudio,I've just tried it yesterday and it didn't work so I gave up....There is also xmms2 which is something like mpd but it was taking even more CPU...
Any help is appreciated !

I would still recommend you using pulseaudio. What didn't work when you tried pulseaudio?

Re: [Solved]MPD issues

I don't know, there was just no sound at everything.I was too pissed and I've instantly removed it when I saw there was no sound.
I know that when I got my USB speakers,I had some people on #alsa/freenode to tell me a special ~/.asoundrc to use card 1 as default.

Re: [Solved]MPD issues

Try cmus - it's nice and simple, very low CPU usage, to see if your CPU usage problem occurs with that too.

Pulseaudio would just add more problems and complications. Keep it simple, debug ALSA first.

Google for your soundcard model with the keyword "Linux", and see what other people have got working.

Re: [Solved]MPD issues

I've tried cmus and I really don't like.I like the simplicity of mpd.In cmus i have to learn the keybindings of that client and it's commands when all I need is something like mpc,as I've binded those "internet keys" to do commands like mpc toggle, mpc next, mpc prev etc
I've also seen that when I try to play a song it says : Error: opening audio device: internal error

Re: [Solved]MPD issues

Well, brebs has a point!! Try using other apps, like cmus and/or moc.

If you still wish to use mpd, i'd rather you better search you problem. Small tipp: if you have no sound using pulseaudio and mpd (lets say, you configured mpd per %user%, i.e. configs are in your /home, and you start mpd by starting X), you may need to set in your ~/.mpd/mpd.conf the following:

user "%YOURNAME%"
group "users"

It still may not be clear, so read more in Wiki. Good luck!!

Re: [Solved]MPD issues

Thank God I've solved this. The problem was in the alsa config at mpd.conf,I had to s/hw:0,0/hw:1/g and now it works like a charm!
