[SOLVED] creating ISO's with Xfburn

Hello all, me again,

Sorry for the flood of questions with my recent XFCE build, but I'm stuck.

I'm trying to create an ISO from a DVD using Xfburn, even though my DVD seems to automount when I insert a DVD/CD, when I load Xfburn I don't see a way to create a ISO from the disc.  Is there a way to create ISO images from CD/DVD media with Xfburn?

Re: [SOLVED] creating ISO's with Xfburn

I just usually go:

dd if=/dev/sr0 of=IMAGE.iso

replacing IMAGE with whatever filename you want.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read the last sentence of the OP properly.

Re: [SOLVED] creating ISO's with Xfburn

Appreciate the responses, I'm just trying to figure out if there is something I am doing wrong, since the homepage for Xfburn(http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/applications/xfburn) says it can create ISO images.

does anyone know if XFburn can create an ISO image from a DVD/CD?

Re: [SOLVED] creating ISO's with Xfburn

Even the man page for xfburn says: "Images in .iso format can be burned, or created." However, there are no options anywhere in the man page nor in the GUI app itself to allow "creation" of an ISO image. I think the documentation is incorrectly worded.

@lagagnon,

Thanx for the reply, I'm beginning to think the same thing.

Re: [SOLVED] creating ISO's with Xfburn

When you choose New Data Composition, add files and folders, and select Proceed to Burn the next dialog has an option to Only create ISO instead of burning a disk.

Pretty sure this will work if you mount the CD/DVD and add the files from it during this process, but I am unsure if it would work to retain bootability from a disk. Probably not. I haven't tried. But if you don't need a bootable ISO image, this should work.

Re: [SOLVED] creating ISO's with Xfburn

Marking this topic solved, as it appears that Xfburn does not (easily) burn a disc (DVD or CD) to an ISO file.
