rt2870sta removed from upstream 2.6.39 kernel?

Hello, i have just booted the latest kernel from [testing] and noticed my internet connection wouldn't connect automatically.
I had a look around and the module needed does not seem to exist anymore, i have had to boot into a different kernel to be able to post this.

After a bit of searching, several sites claim it may be removed??? For example:

The rt2860sta and rt2870sta staging drivers for Ralink WLAN chips are therefore likely to exit the kernel in 2.6.40, as they address WLAN components which are now supported by the Rt2x00 driver

http://www.h-online.com/open/features/K … tml?page=2

My current /etc/rc.conf MODULES contains (and always has):

MODULES=(!rt2{8,x}00{usb,lib} !pcspkr !snd-pcm-oss powernow-k8 cpufreq_ondemand cpufreq_performance fuse)

The reason being that the rt2x00 / rt2800 modules refuse to work with my wireless chipset. I have never really had trouble using rt2870sta module in the past, and it works pretty much perfectly.

If this is correct that the perfectly working driver for my card is going to be deleted from upstream kernels, then what are my options? In the past having to compile sources from the ralink website (on other distros that do not enable the module) i have never managed to get it working. I also do not seem to be able to find any ralink-firmware / driver related packages in the repositories.

PS, my device id is:

050d:8053 Belkin Components F5D8053 N Wireless USB Adapter v1000/v4000 [Ralink RT2870]

It simply will not work with rt2x00 / rt2800 modules.

What can i do to continue using rt2870sta when the 2.6.39 kernel appears in [core]?
Thanks for any suggestions.

These drivers have been, and still are, in the AUR.

It still seems to be in staging: http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/dr … /?v=2.6.39. If it is not compiled in the arch main line, you could download this directory and compile it yourself. Then you can use insmod to use the module.
