Wireless Dilema

Hey everyone, I'd like to start by stating that I am extremely new in the field of Linux usage and that this is my first time using Arch; as per recommendation by a friend. In any case I'm here due to (as my topic states) some problems connecting to any wireless network on my Dell Latitude D810 with a Broadcom BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] wireless card. So, here are some of the problems I've encountered;

1. ifconfig wlan0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory

2. dhcpcd wlan0
    dhcpcd: version .2.2 starting
dhcpcd: wlan0: up_interface: No such file or directory
    dhcpcd: wlan0: waiting for carrier
    dhcpcd: timed out

3. iwconfig wlan0 tells me that even though I've set the essid and the key for my wireless network it refuses to connect to the access point.

Any help on this matter would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks again,
          -(P)2

Re: Wireless Dilema

Please post the output of:
ifconfig -a
iwlist scan

and, when you think the interface should be working
iwconfig

Re: Wireless Dilema

This may sound like a stupid question but are you running those commands as root? Are you setting the essid and key manually with iwconfig or are you using netcfg or something else?

Re: Wireless Dilema

Are all kernel modules loaded? Needs more information like what ewaller asks for.
