Flash and Mplayer videos play slowly

I think I can blame my ATI card for this (does it both the with proprietary and open source drivers BTW), but playing videos on Youtube (or other video sites) with Flash, or even the Mplayer plugin (with greasemonkey scripts), or standalone Mplayer, the video will lag behind, and it quickly becomes unwatchable. I've tried messing with loads of different settings under Mplayer, nothing seems to fix it. VLC works just fine for playing any videos, but I can't get the plugin to work the way I want, giving up on that now. Under Flash and Mplayer, the CPU usage isn't the issue, while playing HD videos in Mplayer the CPU usage is maybe only 10% or 20%, and it does it still, and no errors or anything in the terminal. I tried basically all the different outputs for Mplayer, and they all have issues...Flash is sometimes even worse off than Mplayer too.

EDIT: I got a new graphics card, an Nvidia GT 430, and it still does it! The problem actually went away for about a week (after I did a complete reinstall), but as soon as I stuck my new card in, it came back. So then I reinstalled again just for good measure, but no, still doing it. It doesn't do it in Linux Mint, so for now I'm using that, and I think I'm going to install Aptosid right now. I'd really hate to leave arch for something as silly as this, but I might have to until I find a solution sad

Re: Flash and Mplayer videos play slowly

Bump (edited my OP: basically I got a new graphics card and reinstalled twice but it still doesn't work, and now I may have to leave Arch temporarily (will still keep it installed though))

Re: Flash and Mplayer videos play slowly

Plugins may do strange things but are you saying an FLV file plays more quickly in the standalone VLC than the standalone Mplayer?

Great things come in tar.xz packages.

Re: Flash and Mplayer videos play slowly

Yes, VLC plays videos fine, but both Mplayer and Flash both have problems.

EDIT: Oh jeez looks like I might have found the problem (after it doing this for months now, actually). Freakin Pulseaudio's simultaneous output feature, take a look at the last post of this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=108029 Exact same problem as me, and oddly enough, when I was using my 8400GS (with no HDMI audio, so no Simultaneous output), it was fine, and it all of a sudden started up again when I set up HDMI audio. I haven't tested yet, but for now I'm pretty optimistic, all signs point to that being the problem now that I think about it, just I'd never have guessed it since the audio plays fine, the video is the issue, weird tongue I'll post back with my test results soon smile
