j2re blackdown not installing, no mozilla plugin [solved]

I've installed j2re on other distros but I am stuck

have blackdown 1.4.1_01 gcc3.2
extracted / installed it to /opt
created a sym link via mc from the mozilla java plugin to mozilla's plugin folder
but no plugin shows [except the null plugin]

what gives?
:?

Off to using Peanut and Slackware, no hard feelings but I need my CD to burn, PDA and scanner to connect and arch won't do it.

Re: j2re blackdown not installing, no mozilla plugin [solved]

The following worked for me...I'm not sure why using mc to create the symlink didn't work, but you may want to try this:

root@wyvern:~# cd /opt/mozilla/lib/mozilla/plugins
root@wyvern:/opt/mozilla/lib/mozilla/plugins# rm libjavaplugin_oji.so
root@wyvern:/opt/mozilla/lib/mozilla/plugins# ln -s /opt/j2sdk/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so

And the plugin shows up and works fine in Mozilla.

Re: j2re blackdown not installing, no mozilla plugin [solved]

actually just got it working

mozilla does not use /opt/mozilla/plugin
but instead uses
/opt/mozilla/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugin

mc is the way to sym link, far less typing and errors

go to dual pane mode and select your folders to be used,

high lite the source file press control-X then s

easy

yes i know it worked.

but there's a new jre 1.4.2 from sun.

archlinux has the pkg and it's called j2sdk (the compiler, classes and runtime enviroment + the plugin)
