Translating nothing into libao.conf

if I start shell-fm first and qmmp second then qmmp won't play music. If I start qmmp first then both play music but ao complains:

ao_alsa WARNING: Unable to open surround playback.  Trying default device..

You can replace qmmp with YouTube in a browser (aka Flash).

Here's the relevant lsof , aplay -L and some config files cat output: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/396570

This all lead me to think that libao opens surround playback by default and if it would not do that then the world would be a better place big_smile

I have replicated the lsof output with aplay -D front:CARD=PCH,DEV=0 and just aplay (equals to aplay -D default:CARD=PCH). Now, how can I tell libao to be default:CARD=PCH? just dev= [nothing] in /etc/libao.conf didn't work. (Googling Your search - "default:CARD=PCH" libao.conf - did not match any documents.)
