I did "pacman -S thunar-thumbnailers tumbler"
After the install it tells me to run "/usr/lib/thunar-vfs-update-thumbnailers-cache-1" as a user but when I try I get the message that it doesn't exist.
The xface site says it should be /usr/libexec/thunar-vfs-update-thumbnailers-cache-1 but that dir doesn't exist.
Anyone know how I can regenerate the cache of thumbnailers because most of mine are missing and it is hard to work with.

It is already installed, as you can see in the first line of my first post.

Sorry dude, didn't read properly.
Can't help you there then. Had the same problem before I installed tumbler. After install it worked out of the box.

Dethredic, thunar-thumbnailers is VERY outdated. Get an icon theme, along with tumbler and thunar does its thumbnailing fine. If you have some rare file format, you can just assign a thumbnail manually.

my ~/.gtkrc-2.0 looks like this:
gtk-theme-name="Clearlooks Brave"
gtk-icon-theme-name="gnome-brave"
gtk-font-name="Sans 10"
gtk-toolbar-style=2
include "/home/phil/.gtkrc-2.0.mine"
my problem is that many types of files don't get anything (not even the default paper looking icon they used to). Here is an example of some common file types that are missing, I am sure there are more:

What file manager are you using? And how did you install the gnome-brave icons? Try reinstalling the latest version.

I am using thunar.
I installed the icons with lxappearance.
I just downloaded the newest ones from gnome-look and installed those with lxappearance.
I restarted
still looks the same.

Remove the icons from ~/.local/share/icons/ and manually install the gnome-brave icons to /usr/share/icons. Also are the icons missing from other file managers like PCManFM or qtfm?

deleted ~/.local/share/icons/
I installed this package: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=20691 which put all the icons in /usr/share/icons
Here is qtfm:
Not sure what it is supposed to look like (never used it before) but it has some more icons (the archive ones), but not some other ones.

Do you have the gnome icon theme installed?
sudo pacman -S gnome-icon-theme
