extraneous mouse events. ghost clicks

I'm experiencing a problem where about 1 out of every 5 click registers 2 clicks in quick succession. For example if I hit a toggle box it will just blink and do nothing. If I hit the back button on my browser it will go back 2 pages instead of 1. I noticed this after I switched to xfce. Just wondering if this is just an x configuration thing or if it is my mouse. I'm going to do further testing in the mean time but does this ring any bells? has anybody else experienced this?

Test with another mouse.

Edit: or maybe simpler, test with another distro... But it's very probably your mouse.
