hello,
this morning, when i wanted to login my gmail account with firefox, firefox immediately closed after the gmail webpage showed up. i tried many times, all the results were the same. if i do nothing after run firefox, it would close in about 10min. this was quite weird. i tried open "Tools->Downloads", it is ok. but, if i clicked "Tools->Add-ons", firefox closed at once. then i started chromium, it closed 1 second later by itself. finally, i found out that OPERA is the only browser i can use right now.
does anyone know how to fix this problem?
thanks
yjc

Did you update something like a lib?
Offline
i update the system everyday, and the only three packages for yesterday are
libmysqlclient-5.5.13-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
libass-0.9.12-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
telepathy-glib-0.14.7-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
i will try to find the old version of these two lib
i just run firefox and chromium from the shell and both of them gave the same error message
--------------------------------
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 583: _dl_open: Assertion `_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)->r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!
--------------------------------
then i found this
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1666129
reinstall firefox and chromium didnt solve the problem. now i am still trying to figure out how to fix this

I seem to remember this problem from a few months ago. I believe that the problem is due to the Java plugin. Try disabling or removing
jre or openjdk or whatever you use. I don't know much more than that.

thanks
i removed jre, jdk and libflashplayer.so, but firefox disappeared as before. when i used firefox to open a txt file, it was ok and i could read it. when i used firefox to open a flv file, it crashed immediately and showed
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 583: _dl_open: Assertion `_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)->r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!

Try removing or renaming te setting folder in your home folder, could be a configuration problem
I am at work right now but if I am not mistaking it should be .firefox
rm -rf .firefox*
or
mv .firefox .firefox-bad
Hope this helps

shouldnt help because he did before
uhm ok, its weird, but are other users able to use firefox in a normal way?
Uhm do you have any addon for googletalk or something? Google says this message is often related to google apps...
edit: pkgfile ld.so isnt part of any package in the repos - so maybe youre missing an aur package?! (maybe again related to google )

Mhh I cannot see where he tried removing the settingsfolder.
Note the settingsfolder stays in the home dir when you remove or reinstall firefox and stores the cookies, passwords, favorites ed.

Hey, exact same problem this morning, updated last night. chromium crashes straight away, firefox seems to crash after several minutes, or immediately if you go to gmail/google apps. Does seem to be google related. Same dl-open assertion error as above for both.

Same problem for me. Chromium, Firefox, Arora, Midori all crash. Opera seems to work fine.

since i have already removed .mozilla, so i think this means, at least, there is another reason other than googletalk and any addons.

Apparently the glew package update caused problems. After downgrading from glew 1.6.. to 1.5.8 everything is fine again. There is a work in the process.
