[SOLVED] Lexmark X1185's scanner and some other hardware issues

Problem(s) fixed, read at the end of this post.

First, the AIO problem:

Oh, the ever-obscure Lexmark printers...

So I got this X1185 back on 2007 when first jumped to the Linux world.
Back then, this printer was other than unusable on Linux, and after a year managed to get the scanner working but getting a strange sound from it and a blank scan.
That was on Mandriva Linux 2008.1 using sane and kooka, I believe

Now, I got the printer working (using the z600 cups driver), but couldn't get the scanner working.
Tried this and this, and read a bunch of pages containing SANE configuration topics but none worked for me.
Some pages were for 2.4 kernels and i thought they should work but got the same result...

actually sane-find-scanners returns me this:

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.

  # You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
  # found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
  # necessary.

Says it found the scanner (don't know why my android phone shows as a scanner too lol ), but at the time throwing errors of libusb.
If I run sane-find-scanner as root, it does not throw any error but I still get from 'scanimage -L ' no scanner(s) found.
It says on the sane-backend documentation that this printer support is 'complete' although not as accurate as the TWAIN driver used in windows.

Reading what the output says, I don't know what exactly means 'adjust access permissions'  because i'm on the 'scanner' group and udev is working, tried
changing manually the permissions for the device said on the scanner finder but didn't work anyway
Maybe that is the cause of it all hmm

And on the other hardware issues, maybe random:

1. A question to the world:
Had a nVidia Geforce 9500GT which sometimes corrupted the entire image and locking up the system.
Replaced the arctic-silver on the heatsink and cleaned the fan believing it was a overheating problem (did it with the processor too) but got the same results
question: is it a driver problem or something? because i still had over 56ºC readings causing the problem, but after about 10 minutes or so (and some wall-headbutting) the card began to work fine hmmmm... don't want to trash $80 on this

2. Got a Realtek 8185L-based wireless card to 'go wireless' in my home network because I have a wireless router and wanted to free some space from my desk and start removing unnecessary cables too. The problem was that after some time the wireless started disconnecting randomly, forcing me to manually deactivate and reactivate the wireless (i'm using networkmanager for this) question: is it a problem with the driver? because it started happening after a kernel upgrade (but was ~4 months ago). right now it's on mi brother's PC on another room (running wXP) but I plan to use it again in the future.

Mainly the scanner problem is stopping me from entering the Linux utopia I dreamed of roll
If I get this thing working perfectly, I swear that I will create a wiki entry describing how to configure correctly this beast once and for all (if applicable) lol

Thanks for the help! smile
Best regards for you all

EDIT:
Actually I fixed the scanner problem installing sane from git via AUR and worked like a charm, the video card is in it's way to the incinerator lol, and the wlan card was given away to my brother.
About the wiki page, I will try to get some free time to write it, to make at least a small but good contribution to the community that will save some headaches like mine smile

Thank you at least for reading this post tongue
