Gnome shell and X11 cursor

No matter what I do, it always loads X11 cursor, not one, specified using gnome-tweak-tool... But changing it again in tweak tools again brings back to desired cursor. Logging out and back in causes X11 cursor reappear.

Using gnome3 and gnome-shell. Logging in through GDM.

Any one knows of way to fix this behavior?

Re: Gnome shell and X11 cursor

I'm having a problem that sounds like it could be related to yours. Did you find a solution?

For me, the pointer/arrow cursor is always a basic black one. Even though I have selected an alternate cursor theme in gnome-tweak-tool. However, it appear to only affect the pointer, other cursors like the vertical bar (hover over text) or the "hand" (hover over links in browser) does use the cursor from my selected theme.

To make it even more interesting, when the mouse enters a mozilla thunderbird window the pointer turns from the basic cursor into the one from my selected theme.

I'm using gnome-shell, and slim login manager.

#.xinitrc
exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session

Re: Gnome shell and X11 cursor

Another strange development. If I open gnome-tweak-tool and set the cursor theme, the pointer cursor does not change from the default black one. However, if I close gnome-tweak-tool and open *any* GTK3 based app the pointer cursor changes. It has to be GTK3, GTK2 apps don't have the same effect.

There are multiple solutions here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116787

Re: Gnome shell and X11 cursor

Thanks rufflove. It's not a great solution but creating the symlink in my ~/.icons directory works. Bit of a drag that I can't just rely on the xcursor theme selected in gnome-tweak-tool.

mkdir ~/.icons
ln -s /usr/share/icons/Polar ~/.icons/default

Re: Gnome shell and X11 cursor

At least you have a shutdown butto... On no, wait... I never thought I'd find myself Googling the shutdown option for a DE in 2011. wink

I agree none of the solutions are perfect, buy hey its early days yet.
