[Solved] Gnome3 automount and related

Hey there,

I'm on a roll right now fixing all those little things that broke after some time.
So right now I'm focusing on getting automount to work. This hasn't worked in ages,
so it's not really a gnome3 issue.

The problems:
I can't auto or user mount any usb devices or dvds. When I click on the device
in nautilus it tells me that I'm not authorized.
I can't reboot or power off. Since gnome3 I do have the buttons again but they drop me
back into slim.
And last but not least: in the gnome3 system settings I can't click unlock, it's just greyed out.

What I tried:
Everything described here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HA … rmal_users
and here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65070

Nothing worked so far.

My setup:
I'm using slim to login and I do start gnome with

exec ck-launch-session gnome-session

These are my groups:

lp wheel games network video audio optical storage power users orim

I have hal in my daemons in rc.conf

There is no mention of my dvd drive or any usb devices in /etc/fstab

My first gnome installation is almost 2 years old...so I guess 2.2 something.
Then it worked but after some upgrade it stopped and I never really bothered to fix it.

Oh yeah, pmount works...just in case that's important.
Any ideas? Does gnome3 still use HAL or am I on the wrong track?

Gnome3 does not use HAL. Also since you mentioned you use Slim, try following these instructions for PolicyKit:

Re: [Solved] Gnome3 automount and related

Thank you.

I've changed my pam config and added that line to my slim.conf as stated on the wiki page of slim.
Then I installed udiskie from AUR which works perfectly. So auto-mounting works and I can finally shutdown from inside gnome...yay.

Now they only have to come up with a gnome that's actually usable.
