Just updated, can't get into X or console [Solved]

So yeah, as the title says.

Can't remember exactly what was updated but there was definitely a kernel update in there. The system boots fine until it goes to start X, then i just get a blank screen. No keyboard working, so i can't get into a console.

Any ideas? Live cd maybe?

LiveCD is fine. Grab some logs and post them here: /var/log/Xorg.0.log (any relevant errors / warnings?), pacman.log (what exactly have you updated).

Re: Just updated, can't get into X or console [Solved]

Or press 'e' (edit) when grub starts and add 'single' (without quotes) to the kernel line to boot in single user mode.

Re: Just updated, can't get into X or console [Solved]

Ok i think i found the problem...But i dunno why all of a sudden my ATi card wouldn't be picked up, unless it has to do with the new method of blacklisting?

Re: Just updated, can't get into X or console [Solved]

Do you use the catalyst driver? The 2.6.38.8 kernel (which was included in the recent update) may not be compatible to the version of the catalyst driver you're using, so you may need to update to the latest catalyst version.

yaourt -Syf catalyst

did the trick for me smile

Re: Just updated, can't get into X or console [Solved]

Having the same problem.. I already did a "yaourt -Syu catalyst catalyst-utils" and still nothing. Arch boots fine and then when X starts, it gives me a black screen and I cant jump to a tty.

Any ideas? I also get the "fglrx: No matching Device section for instance" warning..

best regards

EDIT: Dont know what really was the problem but somehow it got solved..
I didn't had nomodeset so far, but it always worked.. I added that but it still got stuck in a black screen.. then I copied my normal xorg.conf back again (I deleted it when the problem begun and generated a new one with aticonfig, because I thought that the problem could be in the config) and rebooted.. then it started working.

best regards
