Hi,
I've just install arch on my acer 5100 but I first I've got no sound at all, then I've install alsa-lib, alsa-utils, alsa-oss and put "options snd-pcsp index=2" in etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf as say in the wiki.
And I also install the alsa-driver.hda-intel.hda-codec-realtek-git 1.0-0 as say in this post:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/laptop … 100-a.html
Since this last add, I can heard the bip system but that's all, I guess it's just a configuration problem now.
I didn't follow the next step of this post cause I don't have these files on my filesystem: /etc/modules.d/alsa and /etc/make.conf.
If one of you can give me a hand on this please.
Result of lsmod|grep '^snd':
snd_pcm 73736 0
snd_timer 19488 1 snd_pcm
snd 57384 2 snd_pcm,snd_timer
snd_page_alloc 7161 1 snd_pcm
Result of ls -l /dev/snd/
total 0

You've obviously missed this crucial step:
modprobe snd-hda-intel

Do you have soundcore in modules in rc.conf? It will load other necessary drivers (snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel, etc.)

If I try this modprobe snd-hda-intel:
WARNING: Error inserting snd_hwdep (/lib/modules/2.6.39-ARCH/kernel/sound/core/snd-hwdep.ko.gz): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_hda_codec (/lib/modules/2.6.39-ARCH/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-codec.ko.gz): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting snd_hda_intel (/lib/modules/2.6.39-ARCH/updates/snd-hda-intel.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
And I add this line to /etc/rc.conf but nothing changes:
MODULES="soundcore"
I've also try this soft but it doesn't seem to change something: alsaconf
