'vibration' with firefox in linux

i dont know if anyone else has notices this, but firefox seems to have some issues in linux. When i hover over a button/link on a website, sometimes it(the link/button) seems to vibrate in place for a fraction of a seconds before stabilising..it doesnt happen in windows and its pretty annoying to see it happen in linux..this isnt an arch specific problem cause ive seen it happen in slackware too..ive tried changing skins for firefox as someone recommended, but it didnt help..does anyone know why this happens and a possible workaround?

thanks in advance!

Only thing that resembles a bit what you described I know of are those buggy buttons with text that becomes bold when selected, and depending on the fonts, also slightly bigger, causing weird things.

Other than that, no idea. Try finding such button/link and post a url to it.

Re: 'vibration' with firefox in linux

it happens to me on the archlinux.org site too...the 'FAQ Search Memberlist' links at the top of the page...when my mouse hovers over these links, it just seems to oscillate for a fraction of a second..happens less in some firefox skins though, but happens definetly in the default skin...

sounds like a font issue - try grabbing the bitstream vera fonts... those make things prettier

Try fiddling with the display resolution and fonts settings. xdpyinfo will give info on what resolution (dpi) your monitor is, making the fonts the same should be best. You may also want to try the "always use my fonts" option.

Re: 'vibration' with firefox in linux

Yeah...I fixed Firefox to my liking by:

1) Definiing the correct font setting in my /etc/font/ files

2) Setting the correct physical size for my monitor in my xorg.conf

3) Starting X with a declaration of dpi, like:  start -- -dpi 92

All this is outlined elsewhere in the forum.  I don't have any experience with the problem you are experiencing, though.

Re: 'vibration' with firefox in linux

I was experiencing the same problem when using the small icons in the default firefox theme, but switching to the large icons made it go away.   :?
