Hi,
I have a shiny new and clean Archlinux install, 32bit with Xfce, but I can not modify the panel properties. Both the Size, Length Alpha, Opacity Enter and Leave values are stock at zero and I can't move the slider up. Can somebody help me fix it?
Thank you!

Downgrade gtk2 to 2.24.4
EDIT: You can also customize the panel with xfce4-settings-editor.

Thank you, downgrade fixed the problem. Is there a bug report submitted already about this? Because if not, I will create one.

I don't know if the bug report exists. I searched xfce's bugzilla and I didn't find anything on that.

This problem does not appear to be limited to xfce. Using cairo compositor's preferences dialogue (under lxde) has the same lockout on alpha settings.
So, could this be related to gtk or X, rather than xfce?

I do believe that's what the Gtk-WARNING part means and why downgrading fixed that issue.
Also, I don't believe this issue is actually "solved". There is more than one backway to adjust the settings. Sadly, the actual sliders still refuse to do their job. http://min.us/mvjBW42

Doh ! I was about to lose my mind on this. Glad I am not alone. I am also unable to change the transparency of Terminal.

Im running openbox by itself with updated gtk2 and the sliders stay at zero.
Composting wont work either...

Bug fixed in xfce4-panel git: http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/co … 08ad766355
(Though I think I read somewhere that Gtk2 2.24.5-2 also fixes the problem...? Edit: No, it was another problem.)

Another thank you, this saved me a lot of grief.

I have the same issue with xfce4-panel 4.8.4-1 and gtk2-2.24.5-2 and confirm that downgrading to gtk2-2.24.4-2 fixes it.
The xfce4-panel-git in the AUR is old(20101030-2).
upgrading to gtk2-2.24.5-2 also breaks cairo-compmgr

looking at this it seems that you guys should start filling reports upstream to the applications that are broken because of this change

Here's a thread at Xfce.org if anyone is interested.
