after update, cannot play audio cds (via kscd or dragon player)

Hello!

Subject says it all.

I just did a pacman -Syu   on my system.  Afterwards, I am now unable to play audio cds.... nothing happens.

I insert a known-working cd in drive, and I don't get any sort of device insertion notification from kde. Fine, no big deal.  But when I open kscd, and hit the play button... nothing happens.  Same with dragon.  What happened? And how to fix?

Many thanks!

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 05#p940405 ?

Try to use /dev/sr0 instead of /dev/dvd in kscd or dragon .
Read the Arch Linux Wiki about udev(cdrom) .

Re: after update, cannot play audio cds (via kscd or dragon player)

I have a /dev/sr0:

brw-rw----+ 1 root optical 11, 0 Jun 18 10:32 /dev/sr0

What else should I be looking for to identify the problem?

What's the "yaourt" command that guy was using in the thread you linked?

Thanks!

Re: after update, cannot play audio cds (via kscd or dragon player)

I get the following from dragon player when I try to play any (known-working) audio cds:

Advanced probing on /dev/sr0 failed while reading block size

... and I'm seeing the following in dmesg:

[ 264.157800] sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08
[ 264.157806] sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : 0x5 [current]
[ 264.157811] sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] ASC=0x64 ASCQ=0x0
[ 264.157815] sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: cdb[0]=0x28: 28 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 02 00
[ 264.157824] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 64

Now, just immediately before my last recent update to my system yesterday, I was having no troubles with the same audio cds, or with dragon player.

UDisks

Simply install UDisks: pacman -S udisks

Are you suggesting that there is something specific within the udisks article that's supposed to shed light on my issue with audio cds no longer functioning within my kde sessions? Could you please point out precisely what I'm supposed to be reading within that section?

Forget it , kde 4.6.3 uses udisks instead of hal .

Seems to be a bug #274983 .
Try another media player(mplayer, vlc) till it fixed.
