[Solved] Missing gnome-shell stuff?

Hi

First time arch linux user wink I installed gnome so far so good. But I seem to be missing all the nice new eyecandy panels, bars, search, etc.
Any idea why that is and how I can make it appear?

http://gnome3.org/img/search-big.png
--> All not there and instead of activities I have Applications, Places sad

Thanks

Re: [Solved] Missing gnome-shell stuff?

Did you 'pacman -S gnome-extra' ??

Sounds like you are running in fallback mode. What video card do you and have you set that up correctly?

Re: [Solved] Missing gnome-shell stuff?

I installed the extras now as well, no change even after reboot.

ATI Technologies Inc Cayman PRO [AMD Radeon 6900 Series]
--> Looks ok as far I can tell, how can i verify?

Edit: using this driver xf86-video-ati not the catalyst one

it will be cool if you paste Xorg.0.log

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Sounds like you lack 3d support at the moment. I'm an nVidia guy so I don't know about the ATI stuff much. I'll defer to others on that. Gnome 3 as you see it in the screeshots uses Mutter which is like Compiz in a way, displaying 3d graphics in the environment. Without 3d support you are running in fallback mode. In fact you should have gotten a message when starting X that you were in fallback.

Now that you mention it, I don't like this line in the xorg log:
[     8.023] (II) RADEON(0): GPU accel disabled or not working, using shadowfb for KMS

thx for the hint

Re: [Solved] Missing gnome-shell stuff?

You can give the catalyst drivers a try. Would probably resolve it.
