Difference between netcfg net-profiles and netcfg net-auto-wired?

I am changing the (wired) network setup from net-tools (although currently still used by netcfg) to netcfg. I am uncertain in the choice between net-profiles and net-auto-wired. I have read the ArchWiki to the best of my abilities but it is not clear why and when I should pick one over the other..

As far as I understand it, the former is best suited when you have the cable connected all the time (desktop pc), while the latter is for when you unplug and plug in the cable (laptop).
