Wine problems after 64-bit upgrade

After discovering that my Pentium D is fully 64-bit capable, I opted to upgrade to 64-bit arch. Everything went perfectly except for one major thing: wine. Every game I've tried to install has been a cluster****. Morrowind won't run properly "without openGL, DX8 can't run" or some nonsense like that (I have mesa installed). Oblivion's wonderful DRM fails to detect my DVD drive or load the install screen. One of fallout 3's required winetricks is now 404, regediting is impossible because I can no longer rename keys... is there some sort of 32-bit mode I can run wine in? Every single one of these programs was running perfectly on my 32-bit system.

Check this out: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wine

I haven't played with wine in a while so not sure the specifics of your issue, the wiki seems pretty thorough though.

Re: Wine problems after 64-bit upgrade

enable multilib and install lib32-yourlibglimplimentationhere etc
eg if you are using the free drivers, lib32-libgl, or if you are using nvidia, lib32-nvidia-utils

Re: Wine problems after 64-bit upgrade

hm, thanks for that. Morrowind now gets to the loading screen but I get a music error which I do believe is easily solvable. Still no luck with oblivion, it gives me an error screen and then quits. Still getting crap from Oblivion's horrible DRM- I might just end up stripping that later.

Re: Wine problems after 64-bit upgrade

Have you set the WINEARCH environment variable (as described in the wiki) to ensure that wine is starting in a 32-bit environment?

I'll try that in a minute- morrowind works after I wipe the music, but it just feels dead without it. Looks like I'll have to recompile wine with libmpg123 support for that...

Re: Wine problems after 64-bit upgrade

I think you can just install lib32-mpg123 for mpg support when running Wine in a 32-bit environment on an x64 system...

Also, when I've had problems with Wine, sometimes just deleting (or moving) your wine profile (i.e the ~/.wine directory) seems to help (although you'll need to re-install any Wine applications afterwards)...
