[solved] older laptop, freezes when lid closed

Having installed arch with no desktop manager, when I close the lid, it freezes.

Is there any way to prevent it?

fresh Arch installation
laptop:  Dell latitude D500

Thank you

Does this happen in X as well as the console? One thing to check would of course be the BIOS. Also see if any of these boot parameters help: acpi_osi=Linux, acpi_osi=Windows, acpi.power_nocheck=1.

If that doesn't help, a last resort might be disabling acpi with acpi=off (and disabling the acpid daemon if you are using it).

Great things come in tar.xz packages.

Thanks, I've chosen the acpi=off straight away & it worked.
