Hi
I recently reinstalled my machine with Arch and Xfce4, and at first my sound worked perfectly. After installing some stuff (I don't really remember exactly what) I can't get sound anywhere.
Both Spotify and Amarok jumps tracks.
Amarok says "Too many errors in playlist. Playback stopped.".
Spotify complains about my "sound decoder".
Xmms tells me to "check that I have the correct output plugin selected" and that "I have configured my soundcard properly".
I'm not that good with sound in Linux, so I really need some help here.

Hmm, it seems that something is preventing programs from using the sound.
As I understand it there should be a file called "dsp" at "/dev", but it is not present.
Looking at the console when running xmms and playing a file (alsa):
[joel@AngelEagle ~]$ xmms
libmikmod.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Message: device: default
** WARNING **: alsa_setup_mixer(): Failed to find mixer element: PCM
ALSA lib pulse.c:229:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Connection refused
** WARNING **: alsa_setup(): Failed to open pcm device (default): Connection refused
^C
[joel@AngelEagle ~]$
Playing a file in xmms (pulseaudio):
[joel@AngelEagle ~]$ xmms
libmikmod.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Message: device: default
** WARNING **: Failed to connect to server: Connection refused
^C
[joel@AngelEagle ~]$
Playing a file in xmms (oss):
[joel@AngelEagle ~]$ xmms
libmikmod.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Message: device: default
** WARNING **: oss_open(): Failed to open audio device (/dev/dsp): No such file or directory
^C
[joel@AngelEagle ~]$
:EDIT:
The "libmikmod.so.2" problem is solved, just installed "libmikmod". But the real problem is still there.
This is kind of URGENT! Playing minecraft not hearing the friggin creepers is a pain!

I have alsa installed, and I get the same message when running aplay with or without X:
[joel@AngelEagle ~]$ aplay
ALSA lib pulse.c:229:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Connection refused
aplay: main:660: audio open error: Connection refused
[joel@AngelEagle ~]$

hello,
it may sound stupid but try to remove pulse audio and only use alsa. I have had the same problem with my old laptop using debian, now, only alsa is used.

Never mind, I reinstalled everything.
Thanks anyways!
