i'm using testing, kde-unstable, i686, nouveau-git from testing
0. smplayer or gnome player works fine with gl and gl2 (but hangs whole desktop with xv),
1. so I set the "gl2" into smplayer vo settings. which works fine
2. but vo=gl or vo=xv in ~/.mplayer/config, for MPlayer, hangs X11 or KDE 4.7beta2; when launched with mplayer <video file> from konsole.
Is this a bug with nouveau or mplayer?
UPDATE:
3. kwin compositing is causing the bug, when mplayer is using xv/gl/gl2 vo; alt+tab, application switching like cover-switch, etc., use opengl effects, might be causing those.
How to reproduce:
0. install nouveau git from testing
1. enable kwin compositing in kde 4.7beta2
2. enable 'cover switch' in desktop-effects in system-settings
3. open konsole, play a video file using mplayer
4. switch to full screen by pressing 'F' key
5. press alt+tab a few times to switch to other application
6. bam, artifacts and after sometime a few seconds, whole desktop hangs.
when I disabled kwin compositing, then mplayer played as expected.

A bug report to https://bugs.kde.org/ would probably be the right thing to do.

Try turning off the option `Suspend desktop effects for fullscreen windows` in the advanced tab of desktop effects.

Wow, thanks Adaptee. Disabling "[ ] Suspend Desktop effects for fullscreen windows" - did fix the problem!!! Thank you
