Hibernation issue

I am using usswap with swapfile.
When I run hibernate command

dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest="org.freedesktop.UPower" /org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Hibernate

everything is finem system writes the image to disk, then shuts down.

Upon power-on everything seems fine as well: written image is read, goes to 100% with 'success' message. Then screen goes blank, and after a second an underscore sign is displayed in the top left corner of a black screen.
It blinks for about 10 seconds, the laptop then beeps and laptop shuts down.

What could be the problem?

I haven't tried usswap, but I think pm-utils may be simpler.
