Help with monitor resolution

Yeah so here is the issue. I just installed arch today on this system. A little while ago I just finished installing gnome, my nvidia graphics drivers and then nouveau, in that order. Once I got to the desktop, I noticed the resolution was off, and when I tried to go the either Monitor pref. or the Nvidia utility, there are no other options beyond 1024 X 768. I updated everything graphic wise as far as I can tell. I looked on the wiki and searched there and the forums but I cannot find anything as to why this is happening and how I can fix it. The only thing I can really think of besides the drivers not being updated (though I thought I did this) is my KVM switch is screwing things up. My monitor's main res is 1440 x 900 but when I was in Windows 7 I could use all other resolutions BUT that one (because of the KVM, I know this for a fact).

I'm not really sure what else to do here and was hoping someone could answer my question. If it isn't the KVM that is causing problems, what is the issue? Is it a config file, driver or any other issue?

Thanks for your time and help.

Re: Help with monitor resolution

I'm confused: which driver are you using atm: nouveau, nvidia, vesa ...? Please reboot and check which package have you installed and which modules are being loaded.
Please post the output of 'xrandr' and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Re: Help with monitor resolution

More importantly:

X.Org X Server 1.8.1.902 (1.8.2 RC 2)
...
[ 44.046] Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.34-ARCH x86_64
...
[ 44.046] Build Date: 21 June 2010 12:01:49PM

This is old stuff. Please run 'pacman -Syu' and try again.

[ 47.102] (WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to get display device CRT-1's EDID; cannot compute DPI

Just as I though, there's a problem with your EDID, so it may be your KVM or monitor's fault.

Re: Help with monitor resolution

I've been doing that command practically all day and it keeps saying it is up to date. I will try removing the KVM in a little bit.

LetsMugSanta:

Welcome to Arch.
I edited your original post in this thread  and added code tags.  As jasonwryan pointed out, this is considered to be etiquette for this forum.  The moderators generally try not to edit posts, but in this case  I did not change any content, only format. You can look at my edits to see how it is done.

So your xorg is definitely outdated.
As karol is saying, get a fresh mirror and update.
